Home/Metacognition

Metacognition is thinking about thinking; examining the processes by which one thinks about and arrive at conclusions. It involves both analysis of one’s cognitive process and structure but also monitoring of ongoing processes and adjusting them according to meta-standards. Metacognition as a general term encompasses the study of memory-monitoring and self-regulation, meta-reasoning, consciousness/awareness and self-awareness. In practice these capacities are used to regulate one’s own cognition, to maximize one’s potential to think, learn and to the evaluation of proper ethical/moral rules.
