Bandwagon Effect

Home/Bandwagon Effect

The bandwagon effect is a phenomenon where people adopt a certain activity or believe without any intrinsic evaluation of – or knowledge of – the actual phenomenon, but simply join to gain the benefit of the network effect, e.g. someone might adopt a certain ideology or fashion without knowledge of it, simply to be socially accepted. The result being that the rate of uptake of belief, idea, fad or trend increases the more that it has already been adopted by others – a positive feedback loop.
