Home/Paradigm of Sustainability

The paradigm of sustainability contextualizes the times we live in as a deep transition period in human civilization, driven by exponential growth in almost all areas of human-environmental activity from population increase to natural resource consumption, which began during the industrial revolution, and has sharply increased over the past few decades in a way that is clearly unsustainable. The vision presented by the paradigm of sustainability places human society in a world at the center of which is a fundamental set of contradictions between how the global economy currently operates and what is feasible, given the environment’s carrying capacity. The result is a perceived urgent need for radical transformation in social, economic and technological systems of organization in order to achieve sustainability.
