Social capital is the value embed within the social relations and structure of a community that enables them to function effectively as a whole. Social capital is exhibited in such social phenomena as reciprocity, trust, and cooperation that facilitates social and economic interactions and maintains some form of coherence and integrity to the social system. In social network science, social capital may be defined as the network of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to function effectively.
