Asymmetry defines the condition of two or more things being different in some way. Asymmetry is the perceived lack of symmetry, the lack of equivalence between parts, properties or structures. Asymmetry results from the incapacity to relate two elements under some transformation. While symmetry defines “sameness” and order, asymmetry defines how things are different, thus asymmetry can be used to define the level of disorder within a system.
