Cognition is the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses. The term cognition dates back to the 15th century when it meant “thinking and awareness.” Today the term cognition refers to a diverse collection of psychological activities and encompasses processes such as attention, comprehension, memory, judgment, evaluation, reasoning,  decision-making,  problem-solving, the usage of language, etc. Cognition within humans may be concrete or abstract, conscious and unconscious, as well as intuitive and conceptual.
