A hidden assumption is a premise or assumption that supports an argument or theory without that assumption being made explicit and thus the holder of the theory or argument may often be unaware of it. Example: A witness reasoned: Nobody came out the front door except the milkman; therefore the murderer must have left by the back door. (Hidden assumptions- the milkman was not the murderer, and the murderer has left by the front or back door).
