A hierarchy is a set of parts with structured but asymmetric relationships inside a system, that form a vertical arrangement of entities (systems and their subsystems), usually ordered from the top downwards rather than from the bottom upwards. Within a hierarchy upper levels are positioned above lower levels, and the relationship upwards is asymmetric with the relationships downwards.
