Life cycle design is a design paradigm that emphasises the design of systems across their full life cycle, from cradle to grave. In so doing it tries to optimize the system’s performance and sustainability over its full life cycle. Life cycle design aims to design for all phases of the system’s existence to include the system conception, design and development, production and/or construction, distribution, operation, maintenance and support, retirement, phaseout, and disposal.
