Network topology is the overall pattern or structure to a network; the way in which the constituent parts are interrelated or arranged. Within the context of network theory, it defines the way different nodes are placed and interconnected with each other and has a significant effect on how something will spread through the system. Examples of different network topologies include star, tree or ring structures.
