The term Knowledge Age defines a stage in economic and social development beginning sometime in the latter half of the 20th century when knowledge and ideas became the main source of economic growth. During this period intangible knowledge and information come to replace tangible factors as the primary economic differentiator and sources of competitive advantage. Thus enabling new modalities of work, new business models and new socio-economic models of organization which in turn require different skills and cognitive capabilities.
